Our Faith Formation team works together to plan activities to grow the faith of our congregants from childhood through adulthood.

St. John’s United Church of Christ Sunday School takes place each Sunday (except for the first Sunday) in the Educational Building from September through May. The children are led in a Bible lesson and discussion related to the liturgy of the week.

St. John’s United Church of Christ youth group, Mission Possible, meets monthly. Led by the youth, they engage in fun activities and mission opportunities.

Confirmation is an important part of a growing Christian’s life. Adolescents between the 6th and 8th grade participate in a yearlong confirmation class led by the pastor before being confirmed in the Spring.

Congregants and the public are invited to a weekly Bible Study in the Educational Building. They meet each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

The Mission and Outreach team aims to reach into the Smithton community, providing service to those in need and offering engaging community events.

Check back here for up-to-date opportunities to engage in service work in the community.

St John’s UCC has sponsored the BackPack Blessings program since 2015. This program addresses food insecurity by providing food for the weekend to children attending the local school. Children are selected by the school’s staff and receive a weekly bag containing 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches and 6 Snacks. We also work with the school to make sure the families are aware of the Smithton Food Bank and to ensure that each family has a meal for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Donations can be made payable to St John’s UCC with a notation “for BackPack Blessings on the check.

At St. John’s, music is an integral part of our worship experience. The congregation enjoys singing, accompanied by our new digital organ and piano. Worship is further enhanced by offerings from our Chancel and Chime choirs.

The Chancel Choir meets weekly to rehearse at 9:30 a.m. in the church Fellowship Room. All voices are welcome and encouraged to attend!

The Chime Choir meets weekly to rehearse at 9:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. People of all ages and levels of musical ability are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Special Music is offered occasionally by the Music Minister, congregants and community members. Please contact our Music Minister, Jordan Provost, if you are interested in providing special music.
